Why
“Gems”?
What comes to
mind when you think of a gem? Rubies, sapphires, diamonds, and emeralds
are beautiful, precious, and rare. They come in many different hues, but
all sparkle in their own way. Sometimes their inner beauty is hidden
within, but it is there all the time, waiting to be discovered. Gems
have many facets, with each facet contributing to the whole. We
believe that nurturing and developing the feminine facet of our
personalities enhances every aspect of our lives.
Is this the right group for me?
Anyone who
supports our goals is welcome to join us. We have members who identify
as CD, TG, and TS, as well as spouses, partners, family members, friends, and
allies. To help you decide whether the Gems are a good fit for you, why
not join our Yahoo group? You can ask questions, talk with other
members, and get to know us before attending your first event. To

I am a female-to-male (FTM) trans person. Does your group offer any
FTM support?
We do not offer programs or services specifically oriented
towards trans men. However, FTMs are always welcome to attend our social
events. If you are looking for FTM resources in the Sacramento area, we
will be happy to give you a referral.
Do I have to become a member to attend your events?
Membership is not required in order to participate in our
activities. However, we do encourage attendees to become paid
members as it is membership dues that funds or offsets the expenses
of events and any organization infrastructure fees. No board member
or volunteer is paid anything. Also, as a paid member you will not
only be supporting and giving back to the group, but you'll receive a $5 discount on the door fee
for all Gems events. Members also enjoy other benefits
such as a membership card, library privileges, and even a special card and gourmet cupcake
in the month of their birthday! You can join in person at any
Gems event, or you can complete the membership process online or by
mail. To learn how, click here»
I have never left the house
dressed en femme before. Can you help me?
Yes we can! Assisting
those who are "in the closet" is an important part of what we do. Here
you will find a group of caring sisters who will hold your hand and help
you get out the door. Our socials are a safe and welcoming place for
first-timers, and we are available to give you all the advice and
encouragement you need to take that first step. If you and/or your
partner aren't ready to attend a dressed event in public, then you might
prefer to come to one of our private events, such as a party or
game night held at a member's home. You are also welcome to attend any
of our events in male mode if that is more comfortable for you. We have
lots of options and resources to offer you, and we are always here to
help.
Exactly where do you meet? The website doesn't say.
For security reasons, we do not usually publicize the location of our
events on the website. Complete details will be provided when you RSVP
using the links on our
events page»
I am an "admirer" looking to meet and date transgender people. Am I
welcome to join you?
We are not a dating service, and strive to maintain a family-friendly environment at our socials
and events. If you are interested in a relationship with a transgender
person, try the local nightclub scene or the personal ads. Read our
code
of conduct»
I am under 18. Can I join?
You must be over 18 to participate in River City Gems activities,
unless we have written permission from your parent or guardian. If you
are a teen, we can direct you to a local transgender youth group or
other appropriate resources.
Are you a chapter of Tri-Ess (Society for the Second Self)?
No. We are not affiliated with, and
have no connections to, Tri-Ess
International, Inc.
